Many anime films and series stick out in the minds of anime fans. Some of them manage to attain the status of influential. But out of all anime, only two titles stand above the rest in being completely revolutionary, and more influential than any other. These two films are Akira, and Vampire Hunter D. No other anime films can claim such a powerful influence on the direction of anime, or the cult following which they have accumulated; often including people who hardly even know what "anime" is.
Vampire Hunter D is still one of the most exceptional anime titles out there. Despite it's age, the story, and ground breaking animation still show through. Vampire Hunter D is an animated classic which in some respects nearly defines the genre of Japanese animation, yet has managed to be out of print for some time. As fortune would have it, fans will soon be able to attain this film once again as early as the first quarter of 2000. Whether the new production will be as good as the old is still yet to be determined, but nothing can turn back the sheer power of the film itself. And the Vampire Hunter D saga isn't through yet. A new incarnation of this title is in the works in Japan. Although the new and old versions are a generation apart, this new Vampire Hunter D looks to be as gripping as the first but with a modern look and feel. Will it live up to the old? Only the masses can decide for sure...
